Wurlitzer Jukebox

from:

The Wurlitzer jukebox was introduced in 1933 and continued to be manufactured until 1987. Each jukebox manufactured had a unique name rather than being called a jukebox. The Wurlitzer Company has been in the music business since 1856. They were one of the first companies who began making jukeboxes, known then as coin operated phonographs. The decision was made to stop making them in 1987 do to the digital jukeboxes that were emerging and being used.

Many of the Wurlitzer jukeboxes are collections items, with several of them worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The Wurlitzer jukebox 950 model was the first design to feature the famous bubble. The remaining of these are very rare. The most popular model was the 1015 with 60,000 produced. The Centennial model came out in 1956, known also as the 2000 model. This upgrade allowed up to 200 songs to be on the jukebox. 6,000 of these were made.

Do you have a Wurlitzer jukebox? You can make a small fortune on some models, or a huge fortune on a 950 model. People everywhere on the internet are looking for them as are many antique collectors. Do you have a Wurlitzer jukebox that you would like to have restored? There are a few great jukebox restorers out there who will get it back into working condition for you.

The National Jukebox Exchange is certified in restoring all jukeboxes from 1930 to 1980. Their work is endorsed by the American Historic Jukebox Society. There work is so good, one man drove 1,440 miles each day to have his jukebox restored.

The Wurlitzer jukebox was an icon of the rock n roll era. It is the most sought after jukebox on the market today, with some models being in demand more than others. This manufacturer of jukeboxes saw many changes in the industry during the 50 years of production.

While they decided to stop production rather than enter the era of digital jukeboxes, they are still the best known jukebox ever manufactured. In fact, country music star Waylon Jennings had a number one hit about a man who puts one coin after another into a Wurlitzer jukebox to hear the songs that reminded him of his lost love. The song is called Wurlitzer Prize. The Wurlitzer jukebox of yesterday has been replaced by digital jukeboxes, surround sound, and iPods, but they remain and icon of American history.
